Galaxy Press attends Library Convention

The Annual American Library Association Mid-Winter 2007 was held in Seattle, Washington and had 7,500 school and public Collection Managers, Acquisition librarians and other library staff in attendance.

Galaxy Press attended to present the L. Ron Hubbard fiction line specifically the upcoming "Stories from the Golden Age" and "Writers of the Future".

There was also a lot of interest in the L. Ron Hubbard science fiction titles such as Battlefield Earth. One librarian had read it 3 times in the last 3 years and went on to tell the other librarians on how good of a writer Hubbard is. She said several times, “You don’t get it; it is such a good book.”

She said she loved the metaphor of the little grey men (sharks) and that she despised the Brigantes. She loved the heroic nature of Johnny. She said the book should be read by everyone. She was going on line to buy and read Mission Earth. She said she didn’t know what else Hubbard did, but she knew he could write and something about that book changed her life.

Other exhibitors at the convention started reading one of the "Stories from the Golden Age" called Dead Men Kill. They read the story over the course of the convention and then discussed it in their booth as they were fascinated by it.

All in all it was a great show, with many librarians very interested in the fiction works of L. Ron Hubbard and looking forward to get the new series of books coming out, the "Stories from the Golden Age".

Prediction from MISSION EARTH comes true!

In the 10 Volume Series, entitled Mission Earth by L. Ron Hubbard, the hero, Jettero Heller, explores new energy sources for vehicles to solve the problem of pollution on planet Earth. This is coming to fruition!

Recently, Diego Martinez from Adams State College, wrote in with these lines:

Dear Mr. Hubbard,
I will receive my Chemistry/Secondary Ed degree on May 5th 2007 from Adams State College. I couldn't have done it without you and Jettero Heller! It takes a lot of interest to get through college. Getting to see the big picture through your book, Mission Earth, helps keeps one's eye on the mountain. I live in Colorado, the backdrop for Battlefield Earth. Some days it's hard to go to class and one gets tired of the wackiness of taking Teacher Ed classes. I sit in the classes and listen to some teachers profess how students need to be drugged and behaviourism!

I thank you for my great friends Jettero Heller and Jonnie Goodboy Tyler. With them around, I am able to keep from going psychlo!

I have plans for a Cadillac coupe de elegance hydrogen car, just like Heller's. If I get it running, I will send pictures and a video. I want to make sure it's up and running before I put that cherry paint job on.

Enclosed is a report I did on the National Hydrogen Association conference in Long Beach California. I thought you might enjoy it. It is part of my professional portfolio for the Teacher Ed program. I thank you with all my heart for your work you have given mankind. I intend to study all of your works because I know I am a better person for every sentence I read of yours.

I will use your work for the rest of my career as a science teacher and for the rest of my life.

Sincerely,
Diego Martinez

The NHA Annual Hydrogen Conference March 12-16, Long Beach, California
by Diego Martinez

From the Introduction of Battlefield Earth:
"Science fiction does not come after the fact of a scientific discovery or development. It is the herald of possibility. It is the plea that someone should work on the future. Yet it is not prophecy. It is the dream that precedes the dawn when the inventor or scientist awakens and goes to his books or his lab saying, "I wonder whether I could make that dream come true in the world of real science." L. Ron Hubbard

On Monday, March 13th, 2006, I had the opportunity to test drive several million-dollar prototype hydrogen vehicles, including an Audi, Toyota, Honda and Chevy. The test drives were unlike any other. I actually got to drive the vehicles through the city of Long Beach. These vehicles are zero emissions, the ultimate in green machines. They run on Hydrogen. I got to actually fill up the vehicle. I couldn't fill this vehicle at any old gas station. Luckily they brought in a hydrogen tanker.

A hydrogen economy has been in my mind since my brother first told me about a book entitled "Mission Earth" by L. Ron Hubbard. In the story, the hero, Jettero Heller, takes on the banking/oil elites to bring a Hydrogen engine on the market. It is an amazing thing to see former science fiction change to science fact in front of your eyes!

Jules Verne - "Nothing to fear... yes, my friends, I believe that water will one day be employed as fuel, that hydrogen and oxygen which constitute it, used singly or together, will furnish an inexhaustible source of heat and light... I believe then that when the deposits of coal are exhausted, we shall heat and warm ourselves with water. Water will be the coal of the future."
1874

I got to witness the beginnings of a dream fulfilled over one hundred and thirty years in the making. This was an experience that I will definitely bring to the classroom. And so with global warming becoming more real to the masses every day I hear that plea from the science fiction writers, "Something has to be done about our future".

After returning from the National Hydrogen Conference, I completed my senior research project entitled, "Our Hydrogen Fuel Cell Future". Since then I have lectured to over one thousand teachers and students on Hydrogen. Next semester I will student teach at Sargent High School and graduate on May 5th 2007. I am the first in my family to graduate college with a science degree. I can guarantee that this would not be happening if I hadn't read a book entitled Mission Earth. Science fiction writers have inspired many great scientists throughout the ages. I hope to inspire my students as well.

Why did Hubbard write science fiction?

Many people marvel at why L. Ron Hubbard wrote fiction novels and novelettes and particularly why he wrote science fiction, when his main interest was in the field of religion and philosophy.

The truth is that Mr. Hubbard had many professions and primarily he was a writer and he started his writing career by writing fiction stories. This is excellently documented in the book, MASTER STORYTELLER, AN ILLUSTRATED TOUR OF THE FICTION OF L. RON HUBBARD.

Moreover in 1982, Mr. Hubbard said the following about his career as a science fiction writer:

"Recently there came a period when I had little to do. This was novel in a life so crammed with busy years, and I decided to amuse myself by writing a novel that was pure science fiction.

In the hard-driven times between 1930 and 1950, I was a professional writer not simply because it was my job, but because I wanted to finance more serious researches. In those days there were few agencies pouring out large grants to independent workers. Despite what you might hear about Roosevelt "relief," those were depression years. One succeeded or one starved. One became a top-liner or a gutter bum. One had to work very hard at his craft or have no craft at all. It was a very challenging time for anyone who lived through it.

I have heard it said, as an intended slur, "He was a science fiction writer," and have heard it said of many. It brought me to realize that few people understand the role science fiction has played in the lives of Earth's whole population.

I have just read several standard books that attempt to define "science fiction" and to trace its history. There are many experts in this field, many controversial opinions. Science fiction is favored with the most closely knit reading public that may exist, possibly the most dedicated of any genre. Devotees are called "fans," and the word has a special prestigious meaning in science fiction.

Few professional writers, even those in science fiction, have written very much on the character of "sf." They are usually too busy turning out the work itself to expound on what they have written. But there are many experts on this subject among both critics and fans, and they have a lot of worthwhile things to say.

However, many false impressions exist, both of the genre and of its writers. So when one states that he set out to write a work of pure science fiction, he had better state what definition he is using."

....

"So what would pure science fiction be?

It has been surmised that science fiction must come from an age where science exists. At the risk of rising dispute and outcry - which I have risked all my life and received but not been bothered by, and have gone on and done my job anyway - I wish to point out some things:
Science fiction does not come after the fact of a scientific discovery or development. It is the herald of possibility. It is the plea that someone should work on the future. Yet it is not prophecy. It is the dream that precedes the dawn when the inventor or scientist awakens and goes to his books or his lab saying, "I wonder whether I could make that dream come true in the world of real science."

L. Ron Hubbard - Most Translated Author

Guinness World Records: L. Ron Hubbard Is the Most Translated Author
By Kimberly Maul

Beating out J.K. Rowling, Sidney Sheldon and Anne Frank to become the world’s most translated author is no small feat. But L. Ron Hubbard has done so, according to Guinness World Records. Hubbard, who passed away in 1986, wrote dozens of books of fiction and nonfiction that have been translated into 65 languages. The previous record—51 languages—was set by Sheldon in 1997. Unofficial records state that Rowling and the Harry Potter series have been translated into 63 languages, and Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl has been translated into 64.

Hubbard holds this record as of October 2005, and Guinness presented the verification certificate to Author Services, Inc., the literary agency in Los Angeles that licenses all of Hubbard’s works around the world. “We keep making L. Ron Hubbard’s words available to publishers everywhere so we expect to continue breaking this record,” said Hugh Wilhere, spokesperson for Author Services.
