Golden Age Stories at the Hollywood Santa Parade

A record crowd of an estimated half-million well-wishers greeted acting legend David Carradine and two dozen costumed actors riding the L. Ron Hubbard Stories from the Golden Age float Sunday night as part of the annual Hollywood Santa Parade 2008.

Carradine (Kung Fu, Kill Bill, Golden Boys) with daughter Kansas and granddaughter Phoenix were joined by upcoming star Cassandra Hepburn (Hellride, The Stand) and Amrapali Ambegaokar (soloist on NBCs upcoming Superstars of Dance) aboard the colorful, glittering 30-foot long float along the 2-1/2 mile parade route up and down Sunset and Hollywood Boulevards.

Its great to see the joy in peoples faces along the parade route, said Carradine. Hollywoods past is based a lot on pulp fiction stories, so its a perfect fit for the parade.

Holiday Parade in Hollywood

Actor David Carradine Leads Stories from the Golden Age Pulp Fiction Characters Aboard Float at Hollywood Santa Parade

Carradine with his daughter Kansas and granddaughter Phoenix on the Stories from the Golden Age float.

The Hollywood Santa Parade was sponsored by the City of Los Angeles. The first Hollywood parade first took place 80 years ago, in 1928 and was called the Santa Claus Lane Parade. Carradine enjoyed the opportunity to spread a little Christmas cheer in his own home town. The native Southern Californian was born in Hollywood, the eldest son of actor John Carradine.

Standing at the front of the float is a radio personality Charlie Tuna (K-Earth 101 FM radio) who is interviewing Carradine just before the float takes off for the parade.

Jim Meskimen (Voice of JibJab and director of the Golden Age Stories audiobooks) and Michelle Stafford (two-time Emmy award-winning actress, "The Young and the Restless") were the official announcers in the grand stand greeting each float and marching band as they entered the parade at Hollywood and Highland.

Here is a wider shot of the Galaxy Press float with the pulp characters from the different stories waving to the crowd.

More pulp fiction characters on the other side of the float and here we have a pirate, a cowboy and dangerous dames.

Meanwhile the crowd received the "Golden Gazette" which is the official newspaper for the Stories from the Golden Age, handed out by Suicide Lee Weston, a branded outlaw from the old west.

And after the parade the kids who had gathered at Winterfest (sponsored by Disney and Galaxy Press) got their gift bags from pirates and wondrous space dames.
