L. Ron Hubbard's versatile output included many western stories, some of which were written under pen names such as Barry Randolph, Ken Martin and Winchester Remington Colt. In 1938 alone, the year after the release of his western novel Buckskin Brigades, which was received to critical and popular acclaim, he wrote sixteen westerns that appeared in various pulp fiction magazines.
